The extent of Emile Gruppé’s influence on Cape Ann art and artists is incalculable. One of the most well-known Cape Ann artists, Gruppé is famous for his iconic representations of local harbors, as well as his generosity and kindness as an art teacher at the Gloucester School of Painting on Rocky Neck, which he founded. This scene is Seven Seas Wharf in Gloucester, a favorite location of the artist to paint.
