The enigmatic, individualistic J.W.S. Cox spoke 14 languages, painted in almost every country on the planet, shunned publicity, refused to paint commercially, and pioneered several ground-breaking watercolor techniques, including the “wet-on-wet” method (the painting of wet pigment onto wet paper). A true “Renaissance Man”, Cox was a recognized expert of prehistoric art and established a studio of his own work on Bearskin Neck in Rockport.
