Contending with many struggles in his life – emotional, professional and familial – Thieme brought these challenges and his European study to his artistic practice and passionate teaching. He became a “plein air” master, winning many awards while being one of the most successful painters in New England. The legend goes that he even cut a hole in his ‘woodie’ station wagon enabling him to stand while drawing and painting during the harshest weather.
