Wet-on-Wet: Watercolors of Cape Ann

Splash into spring with the Opening Reception for Cape Ann Collector’s newest exhibition “Wet-on-Wet: Watercolors of Cape Ann” on Saturday, April 27th from 3pm – 7pm at the CAC gallery, 474 Washington Street in Gloucester.

This exhibition explores a vast array of watercolor techniques and styles with luminous new acquisitions: from the powerful abstractions of watercolor specialist Erma Wheeler, to the aqueous compositions of the innovative J. W. S. Cox.  Examples of the shimmering “crushed jewel” effect achieved by international icon Hayley Lever also feature in this vibrant show, along with the expressive interpretations of iconoclast Zygmund Jankowski.  Rare watercolor works by Cape Ann masters Nell Blaine, Theresa Bernstein, Charles Movalli, and Anthony Thieme – all inspired by Cape Ann’s sparkling oceans, crashing waves, and pensive quarries – highlight the simultaneous brilliance of our waters and the artists enchanted with them.

We hope you can join us as we wash away winter, splash into spring, and celebrate a love of the art of Cape Ann.
